Positive Reinforcement Dog Training

 I personally see myself as a positive trainer because I never correct a dog or make them fearful of me. Some may argue that my training method is not technically positive. For example, if I'm holding a treat or food and the dog jumps up, I would turn my back, which technically punishes the dog by removing the food. However, I don't use corrections with pressure on the leash or other training devices, nor do I scold or raise my voice at the dog. I always want the dog to choose the correct behaviour with guidance and rewards. I prefer to set them up for success rather than force them to behave through other methods. That's why I always identify myself as a positive trainer rather than a balanced one.

Training your dog from a young age is quite important for them to learn the right way to socialise and condition them to have good manners. That being said, it’s never too late, to teach an old dog new tricks! 

Consistent practice and learning are key to maintaining a well-behaved and well-adjusted dog. By engaging in regular training sessions and exploring new activities, you can continue to strengthen the bond between you and your dog while keeping their minds stimulated and their skills sharp.

Remember, dog training is a lifelong journey, and there's always room for growth and improvement. Enjoy the process of learning and discovering new things with your furry companion!

I have an educational background in Animal Care and a BSc (Hons) degree in Animal Management. From here I furthered my education by obtaining my Dog Training certification in Australia in 2021.

Dedicated to the safety and well-being of the animals under my care, I’m continuously refining my training methods through ongoing education and participation in various courses and seminars. Over the last 10 years I’ve dedicated my time volunteering worldwide, ranging from assisting dogs in shelters to contributing to international programs for endangered species In Thailand and Borneo.
