Frequently Asked Questions
- What age should you start puppy school?
Puppy training is recommended 1-2 weeks after getting your puppy. This gives them the chance to move into their new homes and feel comfortable and start a relationship with you. It would be great if you could get your puppy used to a collar and leash before puppy school, as this can be quite stressful for them at first. We don’t want to only introduce these things on arrival at puppy school.
- Is it important to go to puppy school?
Yes! Between the ages of 8 and 16 weeks is the most critical socialization period for your dog. They need to be exposed to people, places, and things, not just other dogs. Missing this opportunity could cause issues in the future and have a detrimental effect on your dog.
- What is the maximum age my dog can start puppy school?
The maximum age for our puppy school is 15 weeks old. However, if you miss this with your dog, you can still do puppy training, but it will be a private in-home training session, and the maximum age for this is 6 months. After 6 months of age, your dog will fall into adolescence, and you will still be able to do training, but it will be basic obedience.
- How is puppy training different from dog training?
As a puppy, it's more crucial to create a bond and set boundaries and routines for them to set them up to succeed in becoming a good dog. Puppies have a very short concentration span, so we are teaching them the basics using rewards and introducing markers. As your dog gets older, they become more focused, and they have established a bond with you, so we can use this to get their focus and attention to teach them obedience and manners.
