What is positive reinforcement?
Positive reinforcement is a training method that uses rewards and praise to encourage your dog to exhibit desired behaviour. Rewards such as treats, toys, or praise make your dog feel good, increasing the likelihood of them repeating the behaviour. That's why positive reinforcement is considered the best way to shape or change your dog's behaviour. No punishment or correction should be used during training. Instead, you can withhold or remove something to modify your dog's behaviour.

Techniques such as reinforcement, counter conditioning, and desensitisation allow the dog to choose the right behaviour while being rewarded for it, without relying on the pressure and discomfort of equipment.

Why is positive reinforcement so successful ?
Positive reinforcement training is used to set all dogs up for success. By assisting dogs in performing the correct behaviours through positive reinforcement, it has been proven that dogs are more likely to voluntarily repeat the desired behaviour. Dogs are highly intelligent animals, so when they choose not to comply with our requests, there may be various factors hindering their ability to do so. These factors can include pain, discomfort, fatigue, or confusion regarding how we are asking them to perform a skill or behaviour. That is why we refrain from using other training methods that may force the dog to perform a behaviour they don't want to do.
